As we contemplate retirement, we are pleased that Madeline's son Darren will continue to manage the company
as the 2nd generation leadership born and raised Alberta.
In 2028, we will celebrate 50 years, of having the privilege of being part of Alberta’s energy story.
In 1978, we were contracted to build our first energy management system called EPSS,
used by Imperial Oil and together with scores of others in the O&G industry they are still clients today.
We expanded our business during the early days of deregulation in 2000, entering the consumer retail market in 2008,
and in 2018 created the Hummingbird Virtual Solar Farm under the umbrella of the Solar Club.
We have lived through the ups and downs of Alberta government's regulatory policy changes driven by 10 different premiers with differing ideologies.
Our journey has been challenging but always been guided by the belief: our customers deserve, service, fairness, value and choice.
As founders of the company, we grew up as part of the Silent and Baby Boomer generation.
Like others from our generation, and to be honest with you, we were not necessarily great stewards of our environment.
During the last 50 years, we learned to pivot, we took business risks,
we invested our own money and built what is today one of the largest 100% local and privately family-owned diversified energy companies in Alberta.
Today with age, and as grandparents our perspective on the importance of business growth has changed.
Every decision we will make in the future must be rooted in a simple truth: the choices we make today will shape the world our grandchildren inherit.
That is why we created UNet Legacy Energy.
While Darren and his operational team under the direction of Christie manage the day-to-day aspects of running the company, we are creating a new company called UNet Legacy Energy.
It allows us to stay engaged in the industry that has been kind to us.
How many people in their late 70’s and 80’s are active in launching a new energy retail business? Being engaged and active keeps us young. Join us!
